Our Christmas Photos from Friends and Family
Chip and Sarah tear up H-town, Asia is wondering where Zeena and Rodeo are, Kristy caught Christmas dinner and my parents spent time with long time friends.

The rest of the Andrews's made it!! The week before Christmas we had a great visit with Mom and Dad Andrews, Jason, Petra, Hayden, and little Haley. It turned into quite a task as far as travel to and from Vegas, but we won't go into that... I'll just say that I'm really glad they made it. We packed a lot into 6 days. From skiing in Brianhead (Hayden's first time! Like his dad, it came pretty natural and he was flying down the slopes in no time.) to a visit to Best friends to meet the now famous Seppi and other birds, cats, and dogs. Then there was the 8 hour drive to the Escalante's and Govorno's Arch or something like that... It was cool, though, and Jason and I hiked up to the top of the mountain right behind the arch. We opened gifts to and from all and just really enjoyed the whole visit. Here are some shots from the festivities...

Missing Asia


I came across this photo of me and Asia and I must say I miss her SO much! She was a cuddle bug and I miss that. Daron and I love it here but we miss Kristy, Sarah, Chip, Shannon, Rob, Dane and Ego ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We spend quite a few holidays together...Luckily, Darons family will be here Saturday and Rob and Shannon will be here on the 28th. Now if we could only get someone to move here....

Daron went hiking with me on Sunday. Yup, you read it right, SUNDAY. We got home about 1 p.m. so he didn't miss too much football. Zeena and Rodeo were in Heaven absolute Heaven!! Rodeo rooted around every bush and tree stump scaring rabbits out and Zeena bounded like a deer through the trees. She has limitless energy. One day I am going to take her out for 3 hours and see if she tires. We went to the Grand Staircase Escalante National Park. It was snowing and quiet and we were the only ones there. It was fantastic. Rodeo seems to really take to the snow and if he is up against a red rock he completely blends in.

Daron came home and he brought me a toy!
An IPOD he gave me and it is such a joy!

He showed me his music and said "Have some fun"
I downloaded for hours and I still am not done!

My head it was whirling the possibilities were endless
I could watch movies, hear music - I'd surely end up friendless.

Into my IPOD my concentration will go
When I'll resurface I don't really know!

A thought came to mind that brought to my dismay
He’s hoping football Sundays I will be out of his way!

That’s ok silly man you think what you will
You still have Saturdays to do chores and pay bills.

Sad Rodeo & Jennifer & Daron & Zeena



My Mom and Dad left Las Vegas today to head back to Florida. Although all of us were sad, Rodeo took it the hardest. When Daron and I got home he was happy enough to sleep in his own bed but when we left for work the next morning he felt abandoned. So what does Rodeo do when he feels abandoned? Hit the liquor cabinet? Sulk on the couch? Eat bon bons all day? No. Rodeo climbed onto the computer desk and jumped out the (opened) window. No matter that he is 11 years old the four foot drop apparently was not an obstacle. So Daron came home at lunch and put him back into the house (it was snowing and a high of 35 degrees). One note - if you lock Rodeo in the house don't just shut the windows LOCK them too! Then slide the lock up to the middle of the window otherwise he will figure it out. Yup, when Daron and I arrived home after work the screen had a huge hole in it, the blinds were on the front sidewalk and Rodeo was waiting near the street for our cars. So I brought him to work with me today. It was a high of 32 today. He can't actually come IN the office because we have an office cat and of the 6 dogs that do come to the office Rodeo is the ONLY one who cannot get along with cats (not counting Zeena of course). So after he barked for 45 minutes we went on a very cold walk and then I let him sit in the truck for 3 hours. He was quite happy and quiet there. Go figure. I dropped him back home at lunch and left the back door open. Needless to say that if he got out or destroyed something I will raid the liquor cabinet, sulk on the couch and eat bon bons all day....

Why you should adopt a shelter pet and not a dog from a breeder.




Poor little Sparky has health issues due to inbreeding. Luckily, the people who bred him gave him to the lady that owns Critter Corner here in Kanab. She can afford his medical bills and hopefully give him a comfortable life! He is a cutie.

Daron's parents sent an electric blanket! I LOVE electric blankets.







Mom and I took a 45 minute drive to Duck Creek while Dad and Daron watched football, grocery shopped, did laundry, fixed the fence, and cleaned the car.

They've Gone to the Dogs!



Mom and Dad volunteered a couple of days at Best Friends. The photos were taken at the Clubhouse - an area that houses approximately 40 - 50 dogs. We cleaned one of the octagons. Chakita took a real liking to Mom. I have my favorite - Berkley. Mom said that Berkley reminded her of Graham. Maybe that is why I have such an affection for him.

Joe's Jeans and Cream Cheese Frosting! Ahhh, 37 is a good year. Daron bought me a yummy cake that read "Good God in Heaven, Jen's turned 37!" Mom and Dad bought me my first pair of designer jeans - Joe's Jeans. They fit like a glove and are very cute! Now that I have a pair of jeans that cost over $150 bucks you can call me Paris! On a good note, we have heat in the house! But this morning we woke up and NO HOT WATER! The propane tank is now empty! So we are getting that filled up and all should be good for awhile I hope.

It all started on my birthday. Dan drove my parents from Vegas to Kanab. They damn near froze to death when they got here. They literally were so cold they were giggling and mumbling.






I was quick to show them the backyard and the red cliffs before the sun went down.










After chilling in the backyard (literally) we moved inside. Daron started building a fire and I turned on the space heaters. Unfortunately, we have an old oil furnace that is completely out of oil. Daron and I thought it was a propane furnace in which we had enough propane, we just didn't know how to light the pilot light. So Dad and I went down into the basement which is basically a hole under the house - dirt no walls. We couldn't figure it out and we were so cold that the "oil furnace" label on the motor didn't clue us in. We figured it was an electric start not a pilot light. Which many folks have around here. Needless to say, the next day, Dad and Mom made sure I stopped by the propane place to get someone to service our furnace. Makes sense right? Well, we stopped by Coastal Gas and Amerigas only to realize that we had GARKANE Gas whose office is located 60 miles away. Things were looking bleak. I could tell on the drive home that Mom and Dad were checking out the local motels, Holiday Inn, Shilo Inn, Best Western, even Bob Bons Inn was looking WARM....
So I went to our neighbor Suzette's house. She works for the police, has lived in Kanab her whole life and OWNS a house. Unfortunately, she has her furnace serviced so she called her boss the police chief. He came by to take a look at the furnace. Why is it than even when you have not broken the law a policeman makes you nervous? Apparently, they are not overly talkative even when your not on the side of the road, lights flashing in your rear view... anyhow, back to the story. He went down and said, "This is an oil furnace and the only man left in town who can work on these old things is my Dad". So he called his Dad and left a message. Next thing you know I am on the phone calling the Kanab Truck Stop (which I can see from my front yard) asking them to deliver me some oil! There is an extra charge if they come at night and by the looks of my parents they were willing to spend all of our inheritance just for an ounce of heat. We decided the next day would be fine because the police chief's dad might have to come and service it anyway. To be continued...

Happy Birthday to Me! Happy Birthday to Me!



Hi Everyone, it's my birthday! Yup I am 30 plus seven. Yikes, three years til the big 40, over-the-hill, middle age.... Anyhow, today is just 30 plus seven.



The morning started off with a call from Lisa in KY and a birthday kiss from Daron and Rodeo and Zeena. When I got to work Gloria had put colorful streamers all over my desk and Kristy called from TX to wish me a happy birthday and Marissa called from Kanab. Awwww. Darons parents send a BIG gift that I am opening tonight and MY PARENTS flew in to Vegas last night and Dan is driving them to Kanab today!!! Karen called me from Chicago to wish me a happy birthday and it is now 11:30 a.m. So I will update later with the rest of the birthday news.

Zeus the 120 pound stray from Miami Florida



I met Zeus today. He is huge and gentle and quiet. I got to pet his big ol' head and he is so soft! He doesn't get along so well with other dogs apparently but loves people. I took a few quotes from the article about how he made it to Best Friends.
His flight:
"This big softy really enjoyed the great blue sky (no restrainers necessary). Now and then he’d even flop his big ol’ monster-sized mastiff head on Sherry’s shoulder for drool-filled hello’s. Apparently, it’s the copilot’s responsibility to absorb dog slobber. "
What we found out once he made it to Best Friends:
"Zeus is in congestive heart failure. In fact, he may only have a few weeks left. "
They are looking for a hospice house for him. A lot of people, including me, want to take him home for his last few weeks but you cannot have another dog. I think ALMOST everyone at the sanctuary has at least one dog. Currently, he is happy in the Dog Managers office.
