Updates Addy and Snakes

I am so happy to have seen a beautiful (gopher?) snake the other day on my hike.  It was about 3 feet long!  I didn't take the dogs because Opal is now blind due to cataracts caused by diabetes.  It stinks. She is trying to maneuver around but it is taking time.  She doesn't have glaucoma thankfully but we have to watch for signs of it.  It is really painful and will give them a constant headache.  I for one can relate so I will be vigilant in keeping an eye on her. 

Addy took the bus home with her friend McKenna.  I was totally freaking out worried about the bus on the highway since 95% of the time we don't exceed 35 miles an hour.  Breathe. She was excited to go and hasn't been to her house since before Christmas.  She goes through phases of wanting then not wanting to go to friends.  She went to Cedars house Sunday and Daron and I were at a complete loss as to what to do!

Addy has been enjoying the nice evenings and had chosen to eat her snacks and do her studying outside.  Here is the setup she created.  She is also working on a planting club and has written out steps to how to plant.  She aces most of her spelling tests and has done pretty well on this aside from desk.  It looks like she got it right at first except she had the d backwards and crossed it out.  She loves writing steps for how to do things.  She's  a teacher at heart.

It feels so good to be out hiking again! With long hikes and drive times it takes up most of the day Saturday so I haven't gone on many lately.  That is crazy! I am going as much as I can from now on.  Unfortunately, I did get a migraine after the hike and to the next day.  I drank plenty of water but what I finally realized was that I had some trail mix with various nuts.  So far pecans are the only ones that are safe and I believe walnuts are not.  I had cashews in the trail mix so I guess no more cashews.  The hike was awesome and it led us to the Colorado River and we saw people heading out on their 1 - 3 week river trips.

Lisa's Bio:

Officer Lisa Nagle joined the Louisville Metro Police Department in 2007.  In 2009, she assisted the Indiana State Gaming Commission in one of their largest dog fighting busts that included the confiscation of 110 pit bulls.  To help educate others on animal abuse and dog fighting, Lisa has conducted presentations and trainings to area colleges, rescues, departments within Louisville Metro Government and to law enforcement departments throughout the state of Kentucky.  In February 2014, she spoke in front of the House Judiciary Committee in support of House Bill 408, which would make the possession of dog-fighting paraphernalia a crime.

My Mom has been working hard doing what she does best bringing new designs, updates and renovations to their property.

My Aunt Mary, in frigid Minnesota, will be celebrating her 95th birthday 

on Friday, March 13th! So many fond memories of visits to see

the relatives in Minnesota and Aunt Mary always cooking up a storm and treating

us to her famous Chocolate Cake with nuts on top, home-made French Fries and Steak!!

Yum!!! Have a terrific birthday!! Hugs to all!!

Belated Happy Birthday to an old and treasured friend, who is considered family. Mel

Wheeler.  He had a rugged last year and appears to be thriving this year!  Thank God!!!

Opal's Health Scare

I took Opal in to the vet yesterday when she wasn't feeling good and luckily my sister Lisa encouraged me to take her in! She just wasn't herself and I had a fear she was bleeding internally. After blood work, and xray and an ultrasound they discovered Opal has DIABETES! and her sugar was 500. Normal range 80 - 120. A little insulin and she greeted me like her old self this morning! Ahhhh. Thank goodness it wasn't internal bleeding.  Now my job is to watch her like a hawk and give her an insulin shot in the a.m. and p.m. so glad my baby girl is feeling better.

Daron tried a nibble, I ate most of them and Addy looked at us like we had three heads! My sister Lisa refused which makes sense since she is vegetarian. I think Jen 2 threw up a little in her mouth when the plate arrived.  However, they did have another friend that met us for dinner and she shared them with me!
