Canyon to Canyon Street Festival and Red Rocktoberfest

I am exhausted after three months of planning for the Canyon to Canyons Street Festival. Contacting business owners and artists was my job as well as recruiting volunteers and helping with chalk signs. The five other Kanab City Art Council members had a long to do list as well such as lining up all the bands and performers (sound systems etc) and after this we are all still friends! Luckily, it was a HUGE success and I think a big part of the reason is everyone in the community worked together. We worked with the Tourism/Visitors Center who did tackled the printing and advertising as well as shuttles for the festival. The Volunteer office supplied and set up 100's of chairs, tables, fire pits, heat lamps and torches and events/parking signage and the funding for straw bales and wagon rides. It rained for days prior to the event but the day of the event was PERFECT! There wasn't a wind, the temp was perfect, it was awesome!

Addy picture day and other hikes

Picture day - she wouldn't let me brush her hair (yup sounds like me when I was little) but she wore her new pea coat and boots to school

my "fur free" bedroom went out the door years ago.  Not only the cats but now Eddie the dog (cuddled up by Addy) is in the mix.

1000 Pockets Hike with Daron and friends

Thousand Pockets is a really awesome area. It has "wave" like structures (the actual wave hike requires a permit and is in Utah), it has cool pockets or pools and an area with huge moqui marbles. Its about a 45 minute drive on the highway from our house but the off road portion is another 45 minutes or so. Our 14 year old Ford Escape did great thanks to the big tires we have but we had to hitch a ride with friends for the last 1/2 mile. It was way too sandy and deep. We parked and walked an hour to the rock formations. We spent an hour exploring the pockets and were happy that some of them still had water in them. Some people call the area 1000 pools. We found triops in the pools of water. Triops is a genus of small crustaceans in the order Notostraca (tadpole shrimp). Some species are considered living fossils, with a fossil record that reaches back to the late Carboniferous, 300 million years ago. They look like mini horseshoe crabs. Half of Daron's sole came off his boots and luckily Justin had vet tape in his bag that worked great.  It would have taken an extra 2 or 3 hours to visit the place with moqui marbles so we decided to to visit those next time!

My spirit dog! She is such an amazing soul.  We increased her insulin and added some pain meds for her arthritis and she seems a bit happier!  I love when she rolls on her back and smiles.  Daron got these great photos! What a wonderful husband he is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Halloween cookies & Fall & Rain

Addy and Sam first week of school
Addy Cedar Halloween Cookies
I've tried the Tavern and Teriyaki both are great1
Yes it is almost fall. Our favorite time of year! Bring on the cooler mornings, boots and orange leaves!  Addy wanted to do a Halloween craft so I made sugar cookies and she and her friend Cedar used witches hat, pumpkin, ghost and bat cookie cutters to create Halloween treats. Wow that was a run on sentence.  Anyway, I also found these slow cooker flavor pouches that I really like.  I added a photo of the Teriyaki Beef I made in the slow cooker and also added a photo of the packaging for you Mom!!!!! Just pour the flavor sauce in and add meat. 5 - 8 hours later you have dinner.

We love Rain!

La Madeline's basil tomato soup

I made this with our garden tomatoes and garden basil.  It is to die for!

• 4 cups fresh tomatoes, cored, peeled, and chopped (8-10) or 4 cups canned whole tomatoes, crushed
• 4 cups tomato juice (or part vegetable or part chicken stock)
• 12 -14 basil leaves, washed fresh
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 1⁄4 lb sweet unsalted butter
• salt
• 1⁄4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
• lemon juice (optional)
Directions
1. Combine tomatoes, juice/and or stock in saucepan.
2. Simmer 30 minutes.
3. Puree, along with the basil leaves, in small batches, in blender, food processor (or better yet, one of those handy hand-held food blenders, right in the cooking pan). Return to saucepan and add cream and butter, while stirring, over low heat. Garnish with basil leaves and serve with your favorite bread.
4. Excerpted from an article by Beverly Bundy of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram around May 20. 1994.
