1000 Pockets Hike with Daron and friends

Thousand Pockets is a really awesome area. It has "wave" like structures (the actual wave hike requires a permit and is in Utah), it has cool pockets or pools and an area with huge moqui marbles. Its about a 45 minute drive on the highway from our house but the off road portion is another 45 minutes or so. Our 14 year old Ford Escape did great thanks to the big tires we have but we had to hitch a ride with friends for the last 1/2 mile. It was way too sandy and deep. We parked and walked an hour to the rock formations. We spent an hour exploring the pockets and were happy that some of them still had water in them. Some people call the area 1000 pools. We found triops in the pools of water. Triops is a genus of small crustaceans in the order Notostraca (tadpole shrimp). Some species are considered living fossils, with a fossil record that reaches back to the late Carboniferous, 300 million years ago. They look like mini horseshoe crabs. Half of Daron's sole came off his boots and luckily Justin had vet tape in his bag that worked great.  It would have taken an extra 2 or 3 hours to visit the place with moqui marbles so we decided to to visit those next time!
